Privacy Policy

Your privacy matters. This policy explains what data Narrated collects, why, and the choices you have.

Data we collect

We collect your email address and name when you create an account, and the article URLs you submit for narration. With your consent, or anonymously as described below, we also collect product analytics.

How we use your data

Your data is used to provide the Narrated service, such as generating audio narrations and managing your library, and, through product analytics, to understand and improve it. We do not sell your data to third parties.

Product analytics

We measure how Narrated is used so we can find problems and decide what to improve. What we collect depends on your choice in the consent banner shown on your first visit. Listening, saving and signing in work the same whatever you choose.

Analytics runs on PostHog, open-source analytics software that we host ourselves in the EU, at logs.narrated.app. Analytics data is not sold, shared with advertisers or used to follow you on other sites.

Both tiers below count the same product events, each with fixed values only: an article submitted from the website or the browser extension, a Narration ready (with its length range) or failed (with a general reason), Playback started, and how far it got when it ended (as a range such as 50–74%), a Narration saved to Listen Later or added to a Playlist, an account created, a password reset requested or completed (never your email address, the link or a password; a request says nothing about whether an email was sent), your analytics choice, and errors, including a failed submission, save or password reset, as general codes.

Whatever you choose, nothing is collected on the sign-in, registration, password reset or email verification pages, and analytics never receives article titles or text, the addresses of the articles, Narrations, Playlists or profiles you view, what you type, your email address or your name.

If you accept: full analytics

With your consent we collect:

  • a random visitor ID and a session ID, kept in this browser’s local storage (analytics sets no cookies)
  • the pages you visit and the address you came from, with IDs, search terms and everything after “?” or “#” removed, and campaign tags in the link that brought you here, such as utm_source
  • your browser, operating system, device type and screen size, your IP address, and your approximate location (country, region, city, postal code, coordinates and time zone), looked up from your IP address
  • clicks and form changes, with all text, input values and element attributes masked
  • page load performance, and errors as their type and where in our code they happened, never their message
  • the product events above
  • when you are signed in, all of this linked to your internal account ID, never your email address or name, together with your sign-up date and interface language; signing out unlinks this browser from your account

Purpose: to understand how people find and use Narrated, where they get stuck, and which errors to fix first.

Legal basis: your consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)), which also covers storing the identifiers in your browser. You can withdraw it at any time.

If you decline or have not chosen: anonymous analytics

Until you choose, after you decline, and when your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, we may count your visit anonymously. Nothing is stored on your device and you are never identified. We collect only:

  • the type of page you visit, such as “/narration/:id”, never its address
  • the product events above
  • a daily-changing anonymous hash that our analytics server computes from your IP address and browser user agent to count visitors per day; the address and user agent are then discarded, and the daily value used in the hash is deleted, so visits on different days cannot be linked

No referrer, clicks, device details or location are collected, and anonymous visits are not linked to your account, even when you are signed in.

Purpose: to count visits and measure whether Narrated works and which features are used, without identifying anyone.

Legal basis: our legitimate interest in knowing how many people use Narrated and whether it works (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). Nothing is stored on or read from your device for this.

How long we keep analytics

Analytics events are kept for 13 months and then deleted. Your choice is kept in this browser until you change it or clear your browser data.

Changing or withdrawing your choice

You can change your choice at any time with “Analytics choices” in the footer, the button below, or the controls on this page. Withdrawing consent takes effect at once, without reloading the page, and removes analytics identifiers from this browser. It cannot recall data already sent; to have analytics linked to your account deleted, contact us. Your choice is stored only in this browser, so other browsers and devices ask again. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control count as declining, as does a browser that blocks storage.

Full analytics

Allow turns on full analytics as described above. Disable turns it off at once and removes analytics identifiers from this browser.

Full analytics is not allowed.

Data storage

Audio files and account data are stored securely using industry standard practices. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time.

Your rights

You can ask to access, correct or delete the personal data we hold about you, including analytics linked to your account, to restrict its processing, and to object to processing based on our legitimate interest. You can also complain to a data protection authority.
